Hunter Boots Size Chart: US, UK and EU Sizes With Insole and Calf Measurements

A rain boot has two sizes to get right: the foot and the calf. Hunter’s size guides give you both. Alongside US, UK and EU sizes, its women’s and men’s charts list the insole length, a column it calls MAC calf area, and the leg height of the boot, all in cm. Its advice is short and clear: buy the same size you take in a shoe, expect room for thicker socks, and size up if you are a half size. This guide gives the three official charts, explains how to use the insole and calf columns, points out the oddities we found in the published data, and sets out Hunter’s return rules, which include a restocking fee on mail returns and no exchanges.
Quick answer: Hunter says to buy the same size you take in a shoe, and to size up if you are a half size. On its women’s chart, US 8 = UK 6 = EU 39 with a 25.5 cm insole. On its men’s chart, US 9 = UK 8 = EU 42 with a 27.4 cm insole.

Two Fits in One Boot: Foot Length and Calf
Most shoe size guides answer one question, how long is the shoe. Hunter’s answers a second one that matters just as much in a tall boot: how well will the shaft fit your leg. The women’s and men’s charts carry three measurements in cm beside the sizes: the insole, the MAC calf area, and the leg height.
The insole is the inside length of the boot’s footbed. It is the closest figure Hunter gives to a foot length, but it is not the same thing, so we do not treat it as one and our converter does not use it. The leg height is the height of the boot, and the MAC calf area is the calf measurement for that size. Hunter’s page does not define MAC or say where on the boot it is taken, so treat it as the label Hunter chose rather than a term we can explain.
That second fit matters for tall boots. If you have a wider or narrower calf than average, size alone will not settle it. Hunter’s size pages do not give a calf measuring method, so the calf column is a comparison, not a fitting tool. The women’s Original Tall product page we checked lists a calf circumference and shaft height without units, and it has an Adjustable Calf Options link in site navigation that the page does not explain.
Hunter Women’s Size Chart (US, UK, EU, Insole, Calf)
Hunter’s women’s chart covers US 5 to US 11 in whole sizes, which is UK 3 to UK 9 and EU 36 to 43. The Original Tall product page lists the same range and no half sizes. For the general women’s scale, see our women’s shoe size chart.

Hunter Men’s Size Chart (US, UK, EU, Insole, Calf)
The men’s chart runs from US 7 to US 13, which is UK 6 to UK 12 and EU 39 to 47. The first row lists its insole as 25.9-31.0, which looks like a publishing error because every other row is a single figure, so we show it as published and flag it. For the general men’s scale, see our men’s shoe size chart.
| US | UK | EU | Insole (cm) | MAC calf area (cm) | Leg height (cm) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 7 | 6 | 39 | 25.9-31.0 | 39.1 | 38.1 |

Hunter Little Kids’ Size Chart (Age, US, UK, EU)
Hunter’s little kids’ chart is organized by age, from 12 to 18 months to 5 to 6 years. It gives US, UK and EU sizes but no insole, calf or height figures.

| 12 to 18 mo | 5C | 4 | 21 |
| 18 to 24 mo | 6C | 5 | 22 |

Hunter’s Sizing Rule: Your Shoe Size, With Room for Socks
Hunter’s advice is the same on its women’s, men’s and little kids’ pages. It recommends that you purchase the same size as you take in a shoe, and says its boots allow for wearing thicker socks. Looking for half sizes? Hunter recommends sizing up. The kids’ page adds that if you are in between sizes, you should size up to the next whole size.
Three things follow. First, Hunter is telling you the boot is cut with sock room built in, so there is no reason to buy a size up just for socks. Second, there are no half sizes in the charts, so a half size means going to the next whole size. Third, Hunter gives no true to size rating beyond that, and no style by style notes on the size pages we read, so the rule applies to the range it covers and not to a particular boot.
If you wear a size that is a half in most brands, you are in the half size case. If you wear a size 7.5, for example, the instruction points to a size 8, which on the women’s chart is UK 6, EU 39 with a 25.5 cm insole.
The Same UK Size in Women’s and Men’s: What Changes
The charts invite comparison, because UK sizes overlap. Here are the matching UK sizes from both, with insole and leg height.
| UK size | Women’s US | Men’s US | Insole, women’s (cm) | Insole, men’s (cm) | Leg height, women’s (cm) | Leg height, men’s (cm) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6 | 8 | 7 | 25.5 | 25.9-31.0 (as published) | 40.5 | 38.1 |
| 7 | 9 | 8 | 26.8 | 26.7 | 40.5 | 38.1 |
| 8 | 10 | 9 | 27.5 | 27.4 | 40.5 | 38.1 |
| 9 | 11 | 10 | 28.5 | 28.4 | 40.5 | 40.4 |
Source: Hunter women’s and men’s size guides.
In UK 7 to 9 the two insoles differ by only 0.1 cm, so the boot’s footbed is almost the same length. What changes is the leg. At UK 7 and 8 the women’s boot is 40.5 cm tall and the men’s is 38.1 cm, so a man in a men’s UK 7 or 8 gets a shorter boot than a woman in the same UK size. In every matching UK size the women’s US number is one higher than the men’s. That is why the UK and EU columns are a better bridge between the two charts than the US column.
If you are buying across the chart, for instance a man choosing a women’s boot, match the UK or EU size and then compare the leg height and calf columns.
Using the Insole Column Without Over-Reading It
The insole figure is the one most people will want to compare with a foot measurement, and the temptation is to treat it as a foot length. It is not one, and Hunter does not describe it that way. As general advice, not Hunter’s: a boot’s insole is normally longer than the foot it fits, because a foot needs room for toes to move and for the foot to slide forward when walking, so a foot as long as the insole would feel tight.
The simple method is the one Hunter gives: take your regular shoe size. If you have never been sure of your shoe size, measure your foot with our guide to measuring your foot at home, then convert it with the shoe size converter before using the Hunter table. The insole column is useful for a different purpose, which is comparing two Hunter sizes to see how much the length changes. Between women’s US 8 and 9 the insole grows from 25.5 to 26.8 cm, a step of 1.3 cm, while between US 7 and 8 it grows only 0.3 cm. The steps are uneven, which is worth knowing if you are between sizes.
Calf Fit and Leg Height
For a tall boot, the calf measurement is where a good size can still feel wrong. The charts show the MAC calf area rising with size, from 36.5 cm at women’s US 5 to 41 cm at US 11, and from 39.1 cm at men’s US 7 to 42.4 cm at US 13. The leg height steps rather than rising smoothly: women’s boots are 37.5 cm tall in US 5 to 7 and 40.5 cm in US 8 to 11, and men’s are 38.1 cm in US 7 to 9 and 40.4 cm in US 10 to 13.
So the boot gets taller in two jumps, and the calf area grows with size, meaning a person who needs a small foot size and has a large calf will find the calf area at their size smaller than they might want. The size pages offer no calf options chart. The only calf related options we saw on the product page was an Adjustable Calf Options link and a buckle strap that Hunter says adds an adjustable fit. We could not read the page behind that link, so we do not describe it. If calf fit is your issue, check that page and Hunter’s customer help center before you order.
Data Quirks We Found in Hunter’s Charts
We read the charts directly from Hunter’s pages and found four details worth knowing. The men’s US 7 insole is printed as 25.9-31.0, a range where every other row has a single figure. The women’s US 6 calf area, 36.3 cm, is smaller than the US 5 figure, 36.5 cm, though the rest of the column rises. The men’s US 7 and US 8 share the same calf figure, 39.1 cm. And the EU size 40/41 is a shared size, used for women’s US 9 and men’s US 8, as 45/46 is for men’s US 12 and 26/27 for kids’ 10C. We reproduce all of it as published and do not correct it.
Returns and Exchanges: The Fine Print
Because Hunter’s advice is limited to one rule, the return policy deserves attention. Its refund policy sets out the terms.
| Item | What Hunter says |
|---|---|
| Window | 30 days from delivery, for a full refund or store credit |
| Condition | Unworn, in new condition, in the original shoebox |
| In person | Happy Returns Bar, free, refund within up to 5 business days |
| By mail | Prepaid label, a $6.95 restocking fee per order is deducted, refund within up to 21 days |
| Exchanges | Not offered at this time |
| Not returnable | Final sale items and e-gift cards |

The practical point is that if the size is wrong you cannot swap it. You return the pair, pay a restocking fee if you mail it, and place a new order. If you are unsure, in-person Happy Returns locations avoid the fee.
Comparing Hunter With Other Boots
Hunter’s rule, your shoe size, makes cross-brand comparison easy. If you wear a boot from SOREL, UGG, Blundstone or Dr. Martens, check what each brand says, because they do not agree about sizing up or down. For the general conversion between regions, see our US vs UK vs EU conversion guide.
What we verified and what Hunter does not state
- The women’s and men’s tables were read from Hunter’s size guide pages and cross-checked against a second read of the same page. The little kids’ table was read from Hunter’s little kid’s size guide.
- The insole column is shown as Hunter publishes it. It is not a foot length, so we do not offer a foot length calculator for Hunter.
- Hunter does not define MAC calf area or give a calf measuring method, so we do not explain it beyond what the chart shows.
- Hunter publishes no true to size rating or style by style size advice on the pages we read.
