Vionic is one of the few brands that tells you to size down. Its sizing page says that for Vionic shoes offered only in whole sizes, you should go down a half size, which is the opposite of what many brands recommend. Combine that with orthotic footbeds, several width options on some styles, and a wide calf option on some boots, and Vionic sizing needs a little more explanation than a plain conversion chart. This guide gives you Vionic’s complete women’s and men’s charts (US, UK, EU, Japan, centimeters and inches) and then explains how to use them: what the half-size rule really means, what we can and cannot confirm about widths, how to handle the footbed, and how to compare men’s and women’s sizes.

Quick answer: On Vionic’s chart, women’s US 8 = UK 6 = EU 39 = 24.5 cm, and men’s US 9 = UK 8 = EU 42 = 26.1 cm. For styles sold in whole sizes only, Vionic says to size down a half size. For style-specific advice, Vionic points you to the Size Guide on each product page.

Vionic’s Half-Size Rule: Why It Says to Size Down

Many brands tell half-size wearers to go up. Vionic’s sizing guide says the opposite for shoes that come in whole sizes only: “we recommend sizing down a half size.” It also says that for sizing recommendations by style you should see the Size Guide on the product page, and that for insoles you should see the insole product page.

Why would a brand say this? Vionic does not give a reason, so we will not guess. What we can say is how to apply it:

  • If you wear a true half size (say a women’s 8.5) and the style is made in half sizes, order the half size. The rule does not apply.
  • If you wear a women’s 8.5 and the style is whole sizes only, Vionic says to order an 8.
  • If the product page says something different, follow the product page.

That last point matters most. The product page Size Guide is the only place Vionic gives style-by-style advice, so check it before you buy.

Vionic Women’s Size Chart (US, UK, EU, Japan, CM, Inches)

Vionic’s women’s chart runs from US 5 to 12. It does not list every half size (5.5 and 11.5 are missing), so check the product page for the sizes a style comes in. For the general women’s scale, see our women’s shoe size chart.

Vionic Men’s Size Chart (US, UK, EU, Japan, CM, Inches)

Vionic’s men’s chart runs from US 7 to 14. Vionic’s page lists 11 1/2 inches for both US 12 and US 13, which looks like a typo (the CM column rises from 28.4 to 29.4), so we show it as published. For the general men’s scale, see our men’s shoe size chart.

What the CM Column Means and How to Use It

Vionic’s chart has a CM and an inches column, but the sizing page does not say whether they describe your foot or the shoe. Vionic’s blog on measuring says something that helps: it suggests adding about 0.6 inches, or 1.5 cm, to your foot measurement when sizing. In other words, the chart’s CM numbers look like shoe lengths, a little longer than the foot that fits inside.

Here is how that works in practice, as our reading of Vionic’s own advice and not a Vionic rule. Measure your longer foot in centimeters. Add about 1.5 cm. Find the nearest number at or above that in the CM column. For example, a foot of 23 cm plus 1.5 cm is 24.5 cm, which is women’s US 8 on Vionic’s chart. Then check the style’s product page and your half-size rule.

Because Vionic does not label the column, we do not run a foot-length calculator on this page. Use the chart for conversion and the measuring steps below to get your number.

Vionic Wide Width Shoes: What We Can Confirm

Vionic wide-width searches are among the most common queries about this brand, so here is what the brand actually says. On its blog, Vionic says it offers “medium, wide, and narrow width options,” but not on every style. It gives examples: the Alameda Mary Jane Flat comes in medium, wide and narrow, the Walk Slim Glide Sneaker is available in medium and wide, the Uptown Loafer is available in medium and wide, and the Bella II Toe-Post Sandal comes in three widths. Vionic also says wide-width shoes tend to be about 0.25 inches wider than standard-width footwear. On the sizing page, “Wide Widths” is a category under women’s, and the men’s menu has no equivalent.

What we cannot confirm: a complete list of styles that come in wide, a letter code for each width, or any width options for men. Check the product page for the style you want, and use our shoe width guide to work out whether you need wide at all.

Boots and Wide Calf Options

Vionic says it offers a wide calf size option for boots such as the Phillipa Tall Boot, and mentions medium and wide calf widths. Measure your calf at its widest point standing, and compare with the product page’s calf measurement. If a boot fits your foot but squeezes your calf, a larger foot size will not help; look for the wide calf version instead.

Sizing With an Orthotic Footbed

Vionic describes its footbeds as “bio-mechanically engineered footbeds that provide stability, arch support, cushioning, and flexibility,” and some styles have a removable orthotic insole. Footbeds change fit in two ways. First, the arch support sits under your arch, so if it feels too far forward or back the shoe is the wrong length for you. Second, a removable insole can be swapped for your own custom orthotic if the shoe has the volume. Vionic’s sizing page says insole sizing is on the insole product page, so check there if you buy insoles separately. The tips below are general fitting advice and not Vionic statements.

  • Try shoes on with the footbed in and stand up. The support should feel natural under your arch.
  • If you wear custom orthotics, bring them. Many brands, including Vionic on some styles, make the insole removable.
  • A new footbed can feel firm at first. Discomfort or pain on try-on, as Vionic’s blog notes, can signal a poor fit.

Men’s vs Women’s Vionic Sizes

On Vionic’s chart, the same foot length is one size lower in men’s US than in women’s US: women’s 8 and men’s 7 are both 24.5 cm, and women’s 9 and men’s 8 are both 25.3 cm. The UK numbers match (women’s 8 and men’s 7 are both UK 6), but the EU numbers do not: women’s 8 is EU 39 while men’s 7 is EU 40. If you are buying across genders, compare centimeters, not EU sizes. Vionic’s unisex styles, such as the Rejuvenate Recovery Sandal, are sold in unisex sizing, so check the product page for which chart to use. For a general rule, see our men’s to women’s conversion chart.

How to Measure Your Foot for Vionic

Vionic’s measuring steps are clear and worth following. Tape a piece of paper to a hard, flat floor, not carpet. Wear the socks you will use with the shoes. Stand with your shins over your ankles and place one foot on the paper. Trace the foot with the pencil held straight against your skin. Repeat for the other foot, since sizes often differ. Mark the longest point (big toe to the back of the heel) and the widest point of the forefoot. Measure both lines and record the results in centimeters and inches.

Vionic also suggests measuring in the evening because feet swell during the day, fitting the shoe to the larger foot, and leaving about half an inch, a thumb’s width, of room at the toe. It recommends re-measuring every few years or when you buy new shoes, because foot size can change over time. Our how to measure foot size at home guide has more.

Worked Examples

  • You wear a women’s 8.5 and the style is whole sizes only. Vionic says to size down a half size, so order an 8.
  • You wear a women’s 9 and want a wide. Check that the style comes in wide, since only some do. Wide-width shoes tend to be about 0.25 inches wider than standard, according to Vionic.
  • You measure 26 cm and want men’s. Adding about 1.5 cm gives 27.5 cm, and the nearest value at or above that on the men’s chart is US 11 (27.9 cm). Confirm on the product page, since style fit varies.
  • You are buying boots and your calf is wide. Look for a wide calf size option.

What About Kids’ Vionic?

The Vionic sizing page we read lists women’s and men’s charts only and no kids’ chart. For children, use our kids’ shoe size chart and youth shoe size chart.

Comfort brands each build their own fit. If you own Birkenstock, Clarks, Skechers or HOKA, use your measured foot rather than copying the number.

What we verified and what Vionic does not say

  • We copied Vionic’s women’s and men’s conversion charts from its official US sizing guide and checked each row for US, UK, EU, Japan, CM and inches.
  • The half-size rule comes from Vionic’s sizing guide. The widths, calf, footbed and measuring statements come from Vionic’s blog articles on measuring and extended sizes.
  • Vionic’s men’s chart lists 11 1/2 inches for both US 12 and 13. We show it as published.
  • Vionic’s sizing page does not say whether the CM and inch columns are foot length or shoe length. We say so and avoid a foot-length calculator.
  • Vionic’s UK sizing page would not load, so we did not use it. Vionic publishes no overall true to size rating that we found.
