Cole Haan does not ask you to guess. Its Cole Haan size chart gives a foot length in centimetres for every size, and it adds a width chart in millimetres with Narrow, Regular and Wide columns. That is more measurement detail than most brands print, and it turns buying a pair of loafers or oxfords online into a two-number job: your longest foot length and the width of your forefoot. This guide gives both of Cole Haan’s official charts for men and women, with US, UK and EU sizes beside each foot length, and a converter that finds the closest size to your foot. It also shows how to read the width columns, points out the places where Cole Haan’s own pages stop or contain a typo, and sets out the return and exchange terms, including the free exchange for a different size or width.

Quick answer: On Cole Haan’s men’s chart, US 9 = UK 8 = EU 42 for a 26.5 cm foot. On its women’s chart, US 8 = UK 5.5 = EU 38.5 for a 25.0 cm foot. Cole Haan says to find the closest chart length that is equal to or larger than your foot, and then check width in millimetres.

Two Numbers Decide a Cole Haan Fit: Length and Width

Most brand charts are a conversion table: a US size, a UK size, an EU size and sometimes a length. Cole Haan’s published guidance asks for two separate measurements. The first is length, taken from your heel to your longest toe in centimetres. The second is width, taken across the widest part of the forefoot in millimetres. You read length from one chart and width from another, and the two together tell you the size and the width letter to order.

That matters because Cole Haan sells many styles in widths as well as sizes. The width chart lists three columns for each size: Narrow, labelled N/B, Regular, labelled M/D, and Wide, labelled W/EE. If you have always bought a standard width and been unsure whether the shoe pinched because of length or width, the two measurements let you separate the question.

One limit applies throughout. The pages we read give the charts and the measuring method, but no true to size rating, no per collection notes for lines such as the Zerogrand or the Grand series, and no half size advice beyond taking the next length up. Where we add general advice, we say so.

Cole Haan Men’s Size Chart: US, UK, EU and Foot Length

The men’s chart runs from US 6 to US 16, with US, UK and EU sizes and a foot length from 23.5 to 32 cm. On the page the columns are ordered US, EU, UK, cm. We list them as US, UK, EU so the table matches the rest of our guides. For the general men’s scale, see our men’s shoe size chart.

Cole Haan’s Measuring Method, Step by Step

Cole Haan’s instructions are short. You trace your foot on paper, measure from the heel to the longest toe in centimetres, and then find the closest length on the chart that is equal to or larger than your measurement. The size printed to the left of that length is your size. For width, you measure the widest part of the forefoot in millimetres, find your size row in the width chart, and take the closest width that is at or above your measurement.

A few general tips, which are general advice and not Cole Haan’s: measure in the evening when feet are at their largest, stand while you trace, keep the pencil upright so the outline is not wider than the foot, and measure both feet, then use the larger number. Our guide to measuring your foot at home walks through the same steps with photos of the common mistakes.

Notice what the rule does to a foot that falls between two rows. If your foot is 25.3 cm, the next length up is 25.5 cm, so on the men’s chart you take US 8 and on the women’s chart US 8.5. The rule always rounds up, never down, and the chart is in 0.5 cm steps, so you are never more than half a centimetre over.

Reading the Length Chart: What the Steps Tell You

The two length charts are regular. On the men’s chart, each half size from US 6 to US 13 adds 0.5 cm and 0.5 to the EU size, and UK is always one lower than US. A men’s US 9 is UK 8, EU 42 and 26.5 cm, and a men’s US 10 is UK 9, EU 43 and 27.5 cm. So a whole size adds 1 cm in length, which is a typical step.

On the women’s chart, UK is 2.5 lower than US, so US 8 is UK 5.5 and US 9 is UK 6.5. A whole size adds 1 cm here too. The EU column is where women’s sizing is less tidy. EU rises by 0.5 with each half size for most of the chart, but it jumps a full size from US 6 (EU 36) to US 6.5 (EU 37), and again from US 10.5 (EU 41) to US 11 (EU 42). We reproduce both as Cole Haan prints them. If you are converting a women’s EU size, check the cm column too, since the foot length is the figure that never skips.

That gives you a simple check for any pair of shoes you own. Look up the size on your current pair, find its foot length on the chart, and compare it with your measured foot. If the chart length is more than about a centimetre longer than your foot, the pair has plenty of toe room. If it is shorter, the pair is small for you.

Width: Narrow, Regular and Wide in Millimetres

The width charts give three figures per size, in millimetres. A men’s US 9 reads 91.89 mm for Narrow (N/B), 95.06 mm for Regular (M/D) and 98.23 mm for Wide (W/EE). Measure your forefoot at its widest point, find your size row, and choose the closest column at or above your measurement.

The columns do not step evenly between the men’s and women’s charts. On the men’s chart each width step is 3.17 mm, so Wide is 6.34 mm wider than Narrow at any size. On the women’s chart the step from Narrow to Regular is 3.17 mm, but from Regular to Wide it is only 1.58 mm, so a women’s Wide is not much wider than a Regular. Each half size also adds 1.06 mm of width on both charts. These are calculations from the published numbers, not claims Cole Haan makes.

If your size is above the end of the width chart, such as a men’s US 14 or a women’s US 12, the pages we read do not give a width for it. Cole Haan customer service, at the number on its returns page, can say what the width options are for those sizes.

Shopping Across the Charts: The Same Foot in Women’s and Men’s

Because both charts are built on foot length, you can compare them directly. These are rows where the foot length matches.

The same foot length in Cole Haan's women's and men's charts

26.59.57409842
27.510.584110943

Source: Cole Haan women’s and men’s size charts.

The pattern is consistent. For the same foot length, the women’s US size is half a size higher than the men’s, the women’s UK size is one lower, and the women’s EU size is two lower. So a woman who takes a women’s 8.5 at 25.5 cm would be a men’s 8 in length. Be careful with width when you cross over, because the width charts do not line up. At US 8, the men’s Regular is 92.94 mm and the women’s Regular is 84.24 mm, so a men’s shoe is much broader than a women’s in the same length.

Details Worth Knowing in Cole Haan’s Charts

We read both charts from the live pages and found a few details you should know before you rely on the numbers.

Where Cole Haan's published charts stop or look off
WhatWhat the page shows
Men’s UK at US 15Printed as 142, almost certainly a typo for 14
Men’s width chartStops at US 13, though the length chart runs to US 16
Women’s width chartStops at US 11.5, though the length chart runs to US 12
Women’s EUJumps 36 to 37 between US 6 and 6.5, and 41 to 42 between US 10.5 and 11
Men’s length above US 13US 13, 14, 15 and 16 are 30.5, 31, 31.5 and 32 cm, so one whole size adds only 0.5 cm

Source: Cole Haan men’s and women’s size charts, read October 31, 2026.

The men’s UK entry for US 15 is printed as 142. Every other row follows a rule of UK being one lower than US, which makes 14 the obvious intent, and the row after it, US 16, is UK 15. We reproduce 142 as published and do not correct it. The more useful point for buyers is the foot length above US 13: from US 13 the chart lists only whole sizes, and each adds 0.5 cm, where below US 13 a whole size adds 1 cm. We cannot tell from the page whether that is a design choice or a mistake. If you wear a US 14 or larger, measure your foot and confirm with Cole Haan before ordering.

Boots: The Shaft Measurements Page

Cole Haan publishes a separate measurement page for at least one boot, the men’s ØriginalGrand City Spectre Chelsea. Rather than a length chart, it lists the shaft opening, shaft height and heel height in inches for each size from US 7 M to US 13 M. At US 7 M the shaft opening is 10.5 inches, the shaft height 3.9 inches and the heel height 1.8 inches. At US 13 M the figures are 12.4, 5 and 1.9. The page has no fit advice for the boot.

Use it as a comparison tool. If you have an ankle boot you already like, measure its shaft opening and height, and compare them to the table. Other Cole Haan boots may have their own measurement pages, and we did not find a general boot chart.

Returns and Free Exchanges for a Different Size or Width

Because fit has two dimensions, the exchange policy is the useful part of Cole Haan’s terms. Its returns page lets you swap an eligible item for the same style and color in a different size or width without a return shipping fee.

Two points deserve attention. The exchange ships only after Cole Haan receives your original item and you pay the emailed invoice, and stock is not guaranteed, so a size you want may be gone by then. And Final Sale items cannot be returned or exchanged at all, so check the label before you order a size you have not worn in that style before.

Comparing Cole Haan With Other Dress and Casual Brands

If you are moving between brands, use the foot length. It is the most reliable bridge. Compare your Cole Haan size with the size you wear in Clarks, ECCO, Sperry or Steve Madden, and check each brand’s own chart, because a US size is not a fixed length from one brand to another. For the general conversion between regions, see our US vs UK vs EU conversion guide, and for width terms, our shoe width guide.

What we verified and what Cole Haan does not state

  • The men’s and women’s length and width tables were read from the tables on Cole Haan’s official men’s and women’s size chart pages, and checked against a second read of the same pages.
  • Cole Haan’s men’s page orders its columns US, EU, UK, cm. We show US, UK, EU, cm. No values were changed, except that the order of columns differs.
  • The men’s UK value at US 15 is shown as published, 142, and flagged as a probable typo.
  • Cole Haan publishes no true to size rating, no collection by collection fit notes and no half size advice on the pages we read. Anything we say about those is labelled general advice.
