SOREL Size Chart: Foot Length Ranges for Women, Men & Kids (US, UK, EU)

Most brand size charts give one foot length per size. SOREL’s does something more useful, and a little trickier: it gives a range of foot lengths for every size, and the ranges touch at the edges. That matters for winter boots, where the wrong size means cold toes in a boot that is too big or numb toes in one that is too tight over thick socks. This guide shows SOREL’s full women’s, men’s and kids’ charts, explains how to read the ranges, and walks through what to do when your foot lands on a boundary. Every number in the tables below comes from SOREL. For other brands and scales, our shoe size conversion calculator helps.
Quick answer: On SOREL’s chart, women’s US 8 = UK 6 = EU 39 for a foot 24.3 to 24.7 cm long, and men’s US 9 = UK 8 = EU 42 for a foot 26.0 to 26.4 cm long. On its own Caribou men’s boot page, SOREL says the boot runs a little large because of its roomy liner and suggests considering sizing down. Measure your foot standing in socks, then read across to the matching range.

Sizes come from SOREL’s official chart. Foot length ranges are shown in the full tables below because SOREL lists a range for every size.
How to Read SOREL’s Foot Length Ranges
Take women’s US 8. SOREL lists its foot length as 24.3 to 24.7 cm. The next size up, women’s 8.5, starts at 24.7 cm. So a foot that measures exactly 24.7 cm sits on the edge of two sizes, and SOREL’s chart does not say which one to pick. Every half size on the chart works this way, with steps of roughly 0.4 to 0.5 cm between them.
This is not a flaw, it is just how a range chart works, and it gives you something a single number cannot: a sense of how much room you have inside a size. A foot at the bottom of a range has the most spare space in that size. A foot at the top of a range is already close to the next size up.
How to use that when you shop:
- Foot clearly inside a range (for example 24.5 cm for women’s 8): take that size.
- Foot within about 0.1 cm of a boundary (24.7 cm, 25.1 cm and so on): decide using the sock you will wear and the model’s fit, covered below.
- Foot measured to the nearest whole millimeter: round your measurement to one decimal place before you compare it with the table.
SOREL Women’s Size Chart (US, UK, EU, Foot Length)
SOREL’s women’s chart runs from US 5 to US 12. One thing to notice: it goes from 11 straight to 12 and does not list an 11.5, so check the product page if you need that size. For the general women’s scale, see our women’s shoe size chart.

Sizing Winter Boots Is Not the Same as Sizing Sneakers
A sneaker is worn with thin socks and judged mostly by comfort. A winter boot has to hold your foot, your sock and a layer of warm air. That changes how you choose a size.
Measure in the socks you will wear. SOREL’s own measuring instructions say it is best to measure standing and wearing socks. If you plan on thick wool socks, measure in those. A foot that is 25.0 cm in a thin sock can easily need more length in a heavy one.
Leave room for air, not for slack. Warmth in a boot comes partly from trapped air around the toes. Toes pressed against the front cut off that air and reduce circulation, which is how cold feet start. At the same time, a heel that slides around wears blisters and lets snow in at the collar. A good winter fit has toes that can wiggle, a heel that stays put and no pressure across the top of the foot.
Try boots on at the end of the day. Feet swell during the day, so an afternoon fitting is closer to how the boot will feel on a long walk.
Do not rely on one number. Waterproof boots do not stretch much, and a thick liner compresses over time rather than growing. Choose the size that is right on day one.
SOREL Caribou Sizing: What the Brand Says
The Caribou is SOREL’s best known boot, and it is the one model where SOREL’s own page gives a clear fit note. On the Caribou men’s boot page, SOREL says the boot “runs a little large due to the tough, roomy liner that’s perfect for thick socks” and adds “Consider sizing down.” The same page lists a removable 9 mm liner, seam-sealed waterproof construction and a waterproof nubuck upper, and notes that the laces are not waterproof.
What that means in practice: if you sit at the lower end of a size range and plan to wear thick socks, the Caribou may suit you in your normal size. If you are at the upper end of a range, the extra room in the liner is the reason SOREL suggests going down. We could not confirm the same wording for the women’s Caribou page or for other models, so treat this as the Caribou men’s note and check each product page for its own guidance. When a model has no fit note, the chart and your own measurement are the best starting point.
The removable liner also helps you test the fit: with the liner out you can stand on it and compare your foot length to the insole, which is a quick way to check for spare room before you commit.
What to Do If You Are Between Sizes
Here are four common situations, using SOREL’s real ranges.
- Women’s foot of 24.7 cm. This is the top of US 8 (24.3 to 24.7) and the bottom of US 8.5 (24.7 to 25.1). With thick socks, 8.5 gives your toes room. With thin socks, or in a boot known to run roomy, 8 keeps the heel secure.
- Men’s foot of 26.4 cm. This is the top of US 9 (26.0 to 26.4) and the start of US 9.5 (26.4 to 26.9). For a boot with a roomy liner such as the Caribou, US 9 is the safer first try. For a slimmer, lined boot, try 9.5.
- Two different feet. Most people have one foot slightly longer than the other. Measure both and fit to the longer one, then use a thicker sock or insole on the shorter side if needed.
- Wide or high-volume foot. If the top of your foot feels squeezed in boots that are long enough, length is not the issue. See the width section below.
When the choice is still unclear, order the two nearest sizes from a retailer with free returns and keep the better one. That is the most reliable way to size a boot you cannot try on.
Men’s vs Women’s SOREL Sizes: Why the EU Numbers Do Not Match
If you are buying a men’s boot as a woman, or the other way round, compare foot length and not the EU number. On SOREL’s chart the same foot length range is one size lower in men’s US than in women’s US: women’s 8 and men’s 7 are both 24.3 to 24.7 cm, and women’s 9 and men’s 8 are both 25.1 to 25.6 cm. The UK numbers line up as well, with women’s 8 and men’s 7 both UK 6.
The EU numbers do not. SOREL lists women’s 8 as EU 39 and men’s 7 as EU 40, even though the foot lengths are the same. That is how SOREL’s chart is printed, so we show it as published. If you are shopping across genders, use foot length as the tie-breaker. For the general rule, see our men’s to women’s conversion chart.
For quick conversions in each scale on SOREL’s chart: women’s UK is US minus 2 and women’s EU is US plus 31, while men’s UK is US minus 1 and men’s EU is US plus 33.
How to Measure Your Foot for SOREL
SOREL gives three steps: place your feet flat on a piece of paper and mark your longest toe and the back of your foot, measure the length from the toe mark to the heel mark with a ruler or tape, then use the chart to find your size. It adds that it is best to do this standing and wearing socks.
A few details make the result more reliable. Tape the paper to a hard floor so it does not slide. Keep the pen straight up rather than angled under the foot. Repeat for both feet and use the larger number. Then compare the measurement with the range column, not with a single value. Our how to measure foot size at home guide has a printable method.
SOREL Kids’ Sizes: Toddler, Children and Youth
SOREL splits kids’ sizing into three charts: toddler (4C to 10C), children (11C to 3Y) and youth (4Y to 7Y). All three also list foot length ranges, and the steps between sizes are small, which is why a child can seem to outgrow boots quickly.
| Group | US | UK | EU | Foot length (cm) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Toddler | 4C | 3 | 21 | 10.8-11.2 |
| Toddler | 5C | 4 | 22 | 11.6-12.1 |
| Toddler | 6C | 5 | 23 | 12.5-12.9 |
| Toddler | 7C | 6 | 24 | 13.3-13.8 |
| Toddler | 8C | 7 | 25 | 14.2-14.6 |
| Toddler | 9C | 8 | 26 | 15.0-15.5 |
| Toddler | 10C | 9 | 27 | 15.8-16.3 |
| Children | 11C | 10 | 28 | 16.7-17.1 |
| Children | 12C | 11 | 29 | 17.5-18.0 |
| Children | 13C | 12 | 31 | 18.4-18.8 |
| Children | 1Y | 13 | 32 | 19.3-19.7 |
| Children | 2Y | 1 | 33 | 20.1-20.5 |
| Children | 3Y | 2 | 34 | 20.9-21.3 |
| Youth | 4Y | 3 | 35 | 21.8-22.2 |
| Youth | 5Y | 4 | 37 | 22.6-23.1 |
| Youth | 6Y | 5 | 38 | 23.5-23.9 |
| Youth | 7Y | 6 | 39 | 24.3-24.7 |

Three practical points for parents. First, measure the child standing and in the socks they will wear, as SOREL advises. Second, snow boots are worn in short, cold, high-activity bursts, so check the fit again partway through the season rather than assuming last month’s size still works. Third, the youth sizes line up with small women’s sizes: youth 4Y has the same foot length range as women’s 5, 5Y matches women’s 6, 6Y matches women’s 7 and 7Y matches women’s 8. That is useful for older children and teens moving up to adult styles. For other kids’ conversions, see our kids’ shoe size chart and youth shoe size chart.
Wide Feet, High Arches and Orthotics
SOREL’s size chart gives length only. It does not publish width information, so we cannot give you an official width rating for any model. What we can say is general fitting advice that applies to most winter boots.
- If your forefoot or instep feels pinched in a boot that is long enough, going up half a size may help, but a boot that is too long will make the heel slip. Check our shoe width guide first.
- If you use custom orthotics or thick insoles, bring them when you try boots on. A removable liner or insole gives you more flexibility than a fixed one.
- High arches can feel tight across the top of the foot in a stiff waterproof upper. A looser lacing pattern at the instep helps.
None of this replaces a proper fitting, so when a size is hard to judge online, a retailer with an easy return policy is your best safety net.
A Short Checklist Before You Order
- Measure both feet standing in the socks you will wear.
- Compare the larger measurement to the range column for your gender chart.
- If you land on a boundary, decide using sock thickness and whether the model has a roomy liner.
- Read the fit note on the product page. On the Caribou men’s page, SOREL says it runs a little large.
- Order from a store with free returns if you are unsure.
- Walk around indoors in the new boots, on a hard floor if you can, before you wear them outside.
Comparing SOREL With Other Boot and Winter Brands
Each brand’s chart is built differently, so do not copy a size from one to another without checking. If you also own UGG, KEEN, Merrell or Dr. Martens boots, start from your measured foot length and read across to SOREL’s range instead.
What we verified and what we could not
- We copied SOREL’s women’s, men’s, toddler, children’s and youth standard charts from SOREL’s official sizing page and checked each row for US, UK, EU and foot length range.
- SOREL’s chart prints column headers without labels, so we labeled the columns from their values: US, EU, UK and foot length in centimeters. Please confirm on SOREL’s page if you need to be certain.
- SOREL’s women’s chart lists no US 11.5. We show it as published.
- The Caribou fit note is quoted from SOREL’s Caribou men’s boot page. We did not find a stated fit note for the other models we checked, so we do not claim one.
- SOREL’s chart gives no width information, so none is stated here beyond general fitting advice.
SOREL Sizing Questions, Answered
Do SOREL boots run true to size?
SOREL does not publish one rating for every model. On its Caribou men’s boot page it says the boot runs a little large because of its roomy liner and suggests considering sizing down. For other models, check the product page.
What is a women’s 8 in SOREL UK and EU?
On SOREL’s chart, women’s US 8 is UK 6 and EU 39, for a foot length of 24.3 to 24.7 cm.
What is a men’s 9 in SOREL UK and EU?
Men’s US 9 is UK 8 and EU 42, for a foot length of 26.0 to 26.4 cm.
Why does SOREL list a range for each size?
SOREL gives a foot length range per size, so you can see how much room a size has. The ranges touch at the edges, so a foot on a boundary can fit either size.
Should I size down in SOREL Caribou boots?
SOREL’s Caribou men’s boot page says the boot runs a little large and suggests considering sizing down. If you wear thick socks and measure at the bottom of a range, your normal size may be fine.
Does SOREL have a size 11.5 for women?
The women’s chart goes from 11 to 12 and does not list 11.5, so check the specific product page.
What do I do if my foot is between two SOREL sizes?
Use the sock you will wear and the model’s fit. A roomy liner suggests the smaller size, while thick socks and a snug upper suggest the larger one. Order both from a store with free returns if you can.
How do I measure my foot for SOREL?
Stand on paper in socks, mark the longest toe and the back of the heel, measure the distance, and use the larger foot. Then compare it to the foot length range on the chart.
What size SOREL boot does my child need?
SOREL lists toddler 4C to 10C, children 11C to 3Y and youth 4Y to 7Y with foot length ranges. Measure standing in socks and check again during the season.
Does SOREL give boot width information?
Not on its size chart, which gives length only. Check the product page for the model you want.
Choosing Your SOREL Size in One Minute
SOREL’s chart is more informative than most because it gives ranges, so use them: measure in your winter socks, find the range your foot falls in, and use the model’s fit note when you are on a boundary. If you are buying Caribou boots, remember SOREL itself says they run a little large.
