SOREL and Maharishi have teamed up on the Daystorm Horizon ZIP GTX, a waterproof boot that keeps its camouflage out of sight until you unzip it. According to Hypebeast, it launched November 5 through SOREL at $350.
What makes this version different
The base is the Daystorm Horizon: a GORE-TEX waterproof build, durable canvas and SOREL’s sculpted rubber toe cap with its five debossed ridges. Maharishi layers on its Pacifist Military Design approach, built from three decades of studying camouflage, army gear and utilitarian clothing.
The upper pairs olive green canvas with a black, duck boot-style rubber lower on a lugged Vibram outsole. A central zip makes it easy to get in and out, and a removable olive leather shroud sits over it, framed by military-style lacing with thick coiled olive cord through metal eyelets.
The hidden camo
Maharishi’s DPM Bonsai Tigerstripe, an update of the Vietnam-era Tigerstripe pattern, appears in tan, brown and black on the tongue and inner collar. It stays covered under the olive canvas until the zip is open. Branding is understated and mostly debossed: a tombstone-shaped olive leather patch on the heel carries the Maharishi emblem, a slim MAHARISHI tab runs along the zip shroud, and SOREL is pressed into the black rubber heel counter next to a small GORE-TEX tag. The one pop of color is the yellow Vibram logo on the sidewall and outsole.

This is a wet-weather boot with a design angle. If you want a waterproof option for cold, damp days that looks more considered than a standard duck boot, the olive and black palette is easy to wear.
