Nike and LEGO Send Kids Sneakers to Space With an Astronaut Air Force 1 and an Ice-Planet S.T. Dynamite

Nike and the LEGO Group have put together a space-inspired basketball collection built for kids, and it centers on two shoes: a reworked Air Force 1 Low LV8 and the S.T. Dynamite. Nike says the footwear runs from size 10.5C to 7Y, and a small apparel range comes with it.

Release dates

The collection began rolling out November 2 at nike.com and retail locations in select countries across Asia, the Pacific, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. North America gets it on November 24, according to Nike. If you are in the US, that gives you a few weeks before it lands.

The two shoes

The Air Force 1 Low LV8 takes its cue from an astronaut suit. Nike describes an upper that mimics spacesuit material, sketched stitch detailing, a LEGO space-inspired Swoosh and minifigure details. It is a familiar Air Force 1 shape with a playful twist, which is exactly what makes the shoe easy to wear to school.

The S.T. Dynamite is Nike’s kid-focused basketball model, and here it heads to an ice planet. Think color-shifting finishes and a glitter outsole for an icy, galactic look. Of the two, this is the one that leans hardest into the performance side of the collection.

What else is in the collection

The apparel side imagines an outer-space tunnel walk. Nike lists a printed ripstop pant that echoes the Air Force 1 materials, a full-zip fleece hoodie with LEGO and Swoosh logos and a lenticular minifigure patch, a graphic T-shirt styled like a basketball uniform, and a Dri-FIT mesh basketball short that is the one true performance piece.

Who it suits

This is aimed at young hoopers and kids who like LEGO more than they like stats. The sizing stops at 7Y, so older teens and adults will not find their size in the footwear. Parents buying for kids who are growing fast may prefer the Air Force 1, which is a sturdier everyday sneaker, while the S.T. Dynamite suits the kid who actually plays.

If you like themed kids releases, we also covered the Sonic the Hedgehog x Heelys Gio and the Space Jam x Crocs Classic Clog.

Where to buy

Look for the collection on nike.com and at Nike retail partners on the dates above. Nike has not listed prices in its announcement, so check the product pages when they go live. You can read the full announcement on the official Nike newsroom page. In the meantime, regular Air Force 1 LV8 kids pairs are easy to find and a good way to size your child before the collab arrives.
