The Salomon Grolle by THE BROKEN ARM Is a Leather Boot Made to Crack

Salomon and Paris retailer THE BROKEN ARM have teamed up on the Grolle, a mid-cut boot with a cracked leather finish that is designed to develop patina as you wear it. Hypebeast reports it arrives November 4 at $210, in a Black Olive, Peat and Pumpkin Spice colorway (style code L45536400).

What makes the Grolle different

Most Salomon collabs lean on technical mesh. The Grolle goes the other way with a largely single-piece leather upper in a deep olive-brown shade and an irregular cracked coating. Salomon says the leather is kept close to its natural state so it picks up character over time. A peat-toned brushed rubber mudguard wraps the forefoot and sides with exposed stitching, and a metal buckle adds a workwear touch.

The sole comes from Salomon’s archive, with Pumpkin Spice-toned details and a deeply lugged Mud Contagrip outsole. Laces are bright white and run through embroidered eyelets rather than the usual Quicklace system. Salomon lists the boot at 389 g per unit with an 11 mm drop, which is light for a leather boot.

Release date and price

Hypebeast gives November 4 and $210. Salomon’s own UK product page lists the boot at 190 pounds and was still showing a coming soon countdown without a date, so timing may vary by region. It is expected through Salomon and THE BROKEN ARM.

Who it suits

If you like the workwear boot look but want trail-grade grip, this is the pair. It fits people who wear boots with straight denim or chinos and do not mind a rugged break-in. If you want something softer, our look at the Diemme x Clarks Originals collab shows another take on the hiking-meets-heritage trend.
